Charlotte Hamlin, Ph.D. of Greensboro, North Carolina (storyteller "Charlotte Webspinner"]) develops and presents entertaining and informative programs to  meet the needs of organizations of all kinds and age groups through storytelling, presentations and workshops. She been a successful public speaker, educator and storyteller throughout her life and career as an college and elementary teacher, college administrator, human relations trainer, and educational researcher. Having lived abroad in three countries, resided in nine states within the United States, and traveled in 35 foreign countries, she has a special interest in international and intercultural presentations and stories that help audiences to understand and appreciate the differences and contributions of cultural diversity and to strengthen interpersonal and intercultural communication.  Her engaging personal stories incorporate her diverse and entertaining experiences as daughter, sister, wife, mother, student, educator, traveler, corporate consultant, and senior college administrator (Dean and Vice Provost).

 

PROFILE: Charlotte Hamlin retired from full-time leadership in Continuing Education at Guilford College after a career spanning  more than 20 years as a senior administrator in student life, adult educator, trainer, and part-time faculty member at numerous colleges and universities. She continues to teach college courses she developed in Interpersonal and Intercultural communication and is professionally active as a storyteller, consultant and trainer in the field of human relations, diversity awareness, women's leadership and  intercultural communication. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke University (NC) with a major in English and a minor in French, she received the Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Villanova University (PA) and the Ph.D. in Human Development and Counseling from Bryn Mawr College (PA), in addition to graduate study in English at Indiana University. Additionally, she completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Elementary Education from the University of London (with honors) and taught junior school in England for several years. Other jobs have included educational researcher and evaluator, corporate secretary, pre-school teacher, and director of a tutoring center. Through grants from the A T & T Foundation, the Amoco Foundation, and the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, in 1995 she created and continues to direct the Diversity Drama program which has received a number of awards, including the Innovation and Creativity in Training Award (1999) from the Piedmont chapter of the American Society for Training and Development and the 2000 Education Award from the Greensboro (NC) Human Relations Commission. Her scholarly research focuses on cognitive styles and her study of the leadership styles of women college administrators was published by the Center for Creative Leadership. She is certified as an interpreter of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.
